Fair Work First Statement
Policy Statement
Our CommitmentJedburgh and District Community News Group is committed to the Scottish Government's Fair Work First principles and to creating a positive, inclusive and respectful working environment for everyone who works
with us.
As a community-led organisation, we currently engage a small team of contracted workers rather than direct employees. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who works with us is treated fairly, has opportunities to contribute, and is supported to help deliver positive outcomes for our community.
Effective Voice
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to share their ideas, influence decisions and contribute to the development of the organisation.
We support effective voice through:
- Monthly team meetings that encourage open discussion, collaboration and shared decision-making.
- Regular one-to-one meetings between contractors and management to provide individual support, feedback and opportunities to raise ideas or concerns.
- Annual performance and development reviews to reflect on achievements, identify learning opportunities and agree future objectives.
- An open-door approach that encourages informal discussion and constructive feedback at any time.
- Clear and confidential routes for raising concerns, ensuring issues are addressed fairly, promptly and respectfully.
Fair Pay
We are committed to fair and equitable rates of pay and support the principles of the real Living Wage.
As a Living Wage advocate, we seek to ensure that contracted work is fairly remunerated, taking account of funding availability, the nature of the work and relevant sector standards. We also encourage our partners and suppliers to adopt fair pay practices wherever possible.
Fair Working Practices
All contracted workers are engaged on clear, agreed terms that outline responsibilities, expectations and rates of pay.
We do not use zero-hours contracts and are committed to providing fair, transparent and respectful working arrangements that promote security, dignity and mutual trust.
Review
This statement has been approved by the Board of Directors and will be reviewed annually to ensure it continues to reflect our commitment to Fair Work First and best practice.
